We’ve been hearing about lots of engagements over the festive season and we’ve seen an influx of celebrant requests this month so far. With Christmas and New Year now a distant memory, lots of you will be getting into the spirit of wedding planning if you haven’t done so already.

We know there’s so much to consider when planning your wedding so we’ve put together some wedding show tips that will help you make the most out of any show, and your weekend!

Wedding shows are a fantastic opportunity to meet lots of different wedding suppliers all under one roof, but beware, it can be overwhelming!

HOW TO GET THE BEST OUT OF A WEDDING SHOW

Who to bring? If your fiancée can’t go, who else will you bring? Bridesmaid, Best Man, Mum, Dad, Mother in law to be?  If you’re thinking of looking at dresses, then maybe taking your Mum is a nice idea.

Who’s going to be there? Make a plan of which suppliers you want to talk to. There is no harm in making a list and making sure you talk to everyone on it.

Which one were they again? When you’re at the show and chatting with suppliers you’d like to think you’ll remember everything they told you but with all the best intention in the world, you’ll have forgotten who they were by the time you get home. Take a notebook and carrier bag. Jot down ideas you like and take flyers and business cards away.

Take your time: Depending on the size of a wedding Show, there can be plenty to see. This is why it’s important to take the time to enjoy the day and take it all in. Exhibitors at any show are experts in their respective fields and are dedicated to making your day the absolute best it can be, so be sure to speak to them about your wedding, ask as many questions as you need and let them know all about your special day.

Special Offers: Some suppliers have special offers on the day so take some form of payment with you if you are planning to book, but at the same time do not feel pressurized in to saying ‘yes’ if you are not 100% sure or if you want to take the time to think it over. It is so easy to get caught up in the excitement of the day and make an impulse purchase that you might regret later.

Catwalks: If there are catwalks or live shows, find out what times they are on and coordinate your visit so you can take some time to sit down and enjoy them. Even if you’re not looking to find your dream dress on the day your feet will be glad of the rest!

Get close to the music:  Nothing sets the mood at a wedding like the music, and whether you’re looking for toe tapping, hand clapping, arms in the covers by a live band, dance-floor fillers from a DJ, or a more mellow approach with a string quartet, the entertainment showcase is definitely an area to visit.  What better way to hold your own auditions to find the perfect music for your wedding!

Be a VIP for the day:  Remember that the planning process comes only second to the big day itself in terms of excitement, so why not treat yourself to a VIP experience. There will be lots of suppliers offering free samples, free trials, masterclasses and the likes so you can experience plenty of benefits.  At some larger shows you can upgrade your entry ticket to access the VIP area where you really will be pampered.  If there’s one time you should treat yourself, it’s in the build up to your wedding, you deserve it after all!

And finally with that in mind, wear comfy shoes. You will be on your feet for a long period of time and probably do a lot of walking.

We love meeting couples at weddings shows and this year we are planning to attend lots so if you are planning your wedding and thinking about a Humanist Marriage Ceremony then do check out our growing list of shows.

We look forward to meeting you soon! Happy wedding planning!
